The final product name still being a secret, Microsoft have launched the public preview of a "Business solution reinvented". In a nutshell, it is Microsoft Dynamics NAV within Office 365, as pure software-as-a-service ERP offering as one can imagine. Provided and run by Microsoft. We hear it's going to be huge.
Having spent some time around in demo environment of "Madeira", we must admit we really like the idea and the trend behind. Now what could be arguably better for a startup than just signing up for Office 365 and getting powerful business management system in an instant, never mind the other Microsoft goodies already there - all integrated, sharing a common user experience, accessible anytime and anywhere. Indeed, is there a better one stop shop for all the essential business software needs? Not that we know right now.
Yes, it's not for everyone. Established businesses will not be getting their established process (think customization), number crunching operators will feel to be wasting their valuable seconds "waiting for the cloud", and the cautious will never let go of the fear of not having their server rack two floors down. Yet if you are the kind that cringes and cannot resist to scream and run away when quoted like "...Application Setup - 5 days; Data Migration - 3 days; Training - 5 days; Golive (Onsite) - 3 days...." just to ramp up what you feel must be the standard given, Project "Madeira" will be your best bet of the lifetime.
Back from lyrical sentiment to serious matters, we highly anticipate the success and mass adoption of "Madeira" among startups and SMBs. We were right about Dynamics "App-Store" coming when Microsoft introduced Extensions for Dynamics NAV 2016. Keep going, Microsoft, you're halfway there!
